Area apartments donate 10,000 cans of food to Clara White Mission

The caravan rolled into Jacksonville’s Clara White Mission Friday morning, a trailer and eight vehicles loaded with thousands of cans and boxes of food collected in the First Coast Apartment Association’s 19th annual “Knock Out Hunger” food drive.

Collected at area complexes over the past two months, the food will help the 400 to 500 people a day served by the homeless aid center at 613 W. Ashley St.

As men and women from Clara White’s School of Culinary Arts program moved the food into a storage trailer for use as soon as this weekend, Clara White Mission’s CEO Ju’Coby Pittman was ecstatic.
